Privacy Policy

HabitHound ("we," "our," or "us") provides an AI meal-scanning, nutrition logging, and wellness app for iPhone. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the app or visit habithound.me.

1. Information Stored on Your Device and in iCloud

HabitHound does not require an account. Most information you enter or create—including your profile, goals, meal log, saved meal photographs, reminders, and preferences—is stored on your device. If iCloud is available for HabitHound, Apple may sync this information through your private iCloud database so it is available on your Apple devices. We cannot view your private iCloud database.

If you grant Apple Health access, HabitHound may read information such as body mass, active energy, steps, sleep, mindful sessions, workouts, biological sex, and date of birth. This information is used on your device to provide app features. We do not send Apple Health data to our servers, Cloudflare, OpenAI, Rollbar, Google Analytics, or advertisers.

2. AI Meal Analysis

When you choose to analyze a meal, HabitHound sends the submitted meal photograph or description to our service on Cloudflare, which forwards it to OpenAI to generate meal and nutrition estimates. A description may be typed or created using Apple speech recognition. We do not receive or store your raw voice recording; if you submit the resulting transcript, it is handled as a meal description.

We do not place meal photographs or descriptions in our analytics or diagnostic logs. Our service may temporarily cache the generated analysis for up to 15 minutes so a safely retried request can receive the same result. OpenAI may retain API inputs and outputs in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days, unless a longer period is required by law or needed to protect its services or others. OpenAI states that API data is not used to train its models unless the API customer opts in.

3. App Information We Retain

To operate and protect the app, we retain limited information:

A random app-specific device identifier, stored by us in hashed form, and a security token.
Your time zone, used to calculate daily Pro scan allowances.
Subscription entitlement records, including a hashed transaction identifier, product, environment, expiry, and revocation status.
Scan allowance and usage records, including whether the complimentary scan was used and daily scan counts.
Operational metrics such as scan type, success or failure, input size, latency, model, policy version, token count, and request identifiers.
Network information such as an IP address when needed for short-term rate limiting, security, delivery, or diagnostics.

Apple manages the purchase, billing, and three-day introductory trial. We do not receive your payment card, payment method, or billing contact details. The app sends an Apple-signed subscription record to our service only so we can verify Pro access and apply the correct scan allowance.

4. Diagnostics

HabitHound uses Rollbar for crash and error monitoring. When a crash or reportable error occurs, Rollbar may receive a crash report, stack trace, error message, app version and build, operating-system and device details, timestamps, network identifiers such as an IP address, and related diagnostic context. We do not intentionally include meal photographs, meal descriptions, Apple Health information, your profile, or your meal log in Rollbar reports.

5. How We Use Information

We use off-device information only to:

Provide AI meal analysis and nutrition logging.
Confirm subscription access, apply scan allowances, and prevent abuse.
Operate, secure, debug, and improve the service.
Understand app usage and service performance.
Respond to support requests.

6. Service Providers

We do not sell personal information, show advertising in HabitHound, share app information with data brokers, or use app information to track you across other companies’ apps or websites. We use the following providers to operate HabitHound:

Apple, for App Store subscriptions, private iCloud sync, Apple Health, and speech recognition.
Cloudflare, for hosting, security, delivery, request processing, operational logs, analytics, and temporary response caching.
OpenAI, for analyzing meal photographs and descriptions.
Rollbar, for app crash and error monitoring.

7. Website Analytics

Our website uses Google Analytics to understand website visits and performance. Google may process device and browser information, pages viewed, approximate location derived from an IP address, and cookie or similar identifiers under its own privacy terms. Website analytics are separate from the HabitHound app and are not combined with your app-specific device identifier, meal content, Apple Health information, or subscription record.

8. Retention and Security

Except for the temporary AI-response cache described above, we retain device, entitlement, allowance, usage, and diagnostic records only for as long as reasonably needed to provide, secure, troubleshoot, and improve HabitHound, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Our providers apply their own retention periods. We use reasonable safeguards to protect information in transit and at rest, but no system is perfectly secure. Providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate.

9. Your Choices and Requests

You can use HabitHound without granting Apple Health, camera, photo-library, microphone, or speech recognition access, although the related features will not be available. You can manage these permissions and iCloud access in iOS, and manage subscriptions through Apple’s subscription settings. You may delete locally stored app data by deleting it in HabitHound or removing the app, subject to information that remains in your private iCloud database. To ask about, access, correct, or delete information we control, email privacy@habithound.me. We may need information from you to locate the relevant pseudonymous records and verify the request.

If you contact us for support, we receive the email address, message, screenshots, and other information you choose to provide. Please avoid including health information you do not want to share. We use support information to respond to your request and retain it only as reasonably needed for support and legal purposes.

10. Children

HabitHound is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

11. Updates and Contact

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here with an updated effective date.
